Band Support

Promotional DVD

With images of all performance styles and ‘vox pops’ of Nottingham’s Trinity Show Band members explaining why they enjoy being in the band, this short DVD will be useful when bands are giving presentations to support and develop their membership. Copies can be purchased for £10 from the Federation Office (cheques payable to BFYMBO). Available now.

The Big List!

The Federation is trying to create a list of bands who can reliably perform any or all of the following – street parades (carnival and ceremonial), arena shows, fanfares, small ensemble performances (single instrumentation or mixed). Because of its web site the Federation receives regular requests for bands to perform at major events and the ‘Big List’ will help us accurately direct organisers to appropriate bands. Send details to the Federation Office by post – one A4 page giving basic details of what your band can do / email contact / website address / telephone contact / one photo.

Good Beginnings Training DVD

Introduced by 16 times champion snare drummer Jim Kilpatrick MBE, this is a new two hour training resource produced by the Federation with funding from Awards for All and the Nautical Training Corps. Aimed at traditional bands, show bands and drum corps, it will be particularly useful for units that don’t have a full complement of specialist staff. The DVD will be useful for instructors and members, and covers basic techniques with snare, brass, woodwind, guard and marching. £8.50 incl p&p. Email: marchbands@aol.com

In association with The Open College Network (SE), the Federation can now run the first UK College accredited Leadership Course for our activity. It is targeted at current or prospective leaders, instructors and supporters aged 16 years or over. Download the Leadership Course details here (PDF 260k)

Charity Registration

The Federation negotiated a ‘fast track’ constitution with the Charity Commission several years ago. Whilst some aspects of the registration requirements have changed, the constitution remains valid. Send a large SAE to The Federation Office.
